In 2019 Yossi was awarded Arts Council England funding which supported us to deliver this project. 'RIGHT TO SPEAK' supported marginalised young people to express themselves through spoken word, particularly for those people who are refugees and migrants to the UK, as we all once were. 'RIGHT TO SPEAK' was delivered in partnership with The British Red Cross, Counterpoints Arts, The Hive / Catch 22 and Young Roots... During this project we delivered 16 workshops working with over one hundred young people in 5 Boroughs across London. These workshops were powerful, touching and exciting. For many of the people involved English was a second, third or fourth language, this presented a great opportunity to adapt our work and delve into facilitating multi-lingual poetry workshops. Throughout these workshops we connected with groups of truly inspirational young people from all over the world who live in London. We created safe spaces for people to come together and create art, using spoken word poetry as a tool to build confidence, community and share stories. The project culminated in the production of 2 poetry films sharing the young peoples voices and a showcase event where participants got the chance to perform to an audience.
The films made during this project are available in the 'Films' section of our website...
